It was a good hot and bad hazy week last week. It boosted me to run consecutively for 6 days straight. The cat improved from no. 13 to no.5, not bad.

However, as of this week the weather doesn’t look promising at all. Heavy rain was pouring almost every evening starting from Monday.

Well, I’ve made it to the league of top 5 after all, J. Now, the focus is to maintain the existence here. 1st spot, not in my plan. Is too farfetch anyway as the lead runner had pulled himself almost X2 (twice) the distance of the 2nd runner up!

It was raining heavily for the past few weeks, and all in a sudden, this week is totally the opposite of it. It’s hot and dry, to the extent that you felt like running in the desert with vultures staring at you waiting for their snack.
This is still bearable, until the HAZE comes in to join the party. Quoting from an article from the STAR newspaper today;
‘Sarawak is now experiencing strange weather changes. There was heavy rain less than a month ago and now the weather has became hot and dry, prompting plantation companies involved in the oil palm and timber industries to start open burning to get rid of their waste products.’
This explains why we got haze.
Now here’s the scary part…
‘The NREB, he added, had also received information that there are forest fires in Kalimantan Borneo. If the haze from the Indonesian side were to sweep into Sarawak, and the domestic fires in Sarawak were to get bigger, the transboundary and domestic sources of haze would together create a sharp increase in the air pollutant index as was the case in recent years.’
I hope the condition this year will not worsen as compared to Oct, 2006. Anyway, I’ll continue running even when it reaches the unhealthy 300 point of API index.

Of course with my contingency plan, a WW1 high tech (back then) respirator with rusty O2 canister attached to it. This will do the job.

Watch out, the Cat is at the 7th position… 22 days or 3 weeks left to run. Meow out.

Someway, I was able to do some warm up run last Friday as it had been raining almost every evening for the past few days.
Somewhat, I was planning not to exert myself to much as my plan was using the short-max-short distance style of running throughout the entire Merdeka race.
Somehow, after uploading the Nike+ data to the server, I found myself ended up on the last spot of the entire country at no 15, what a joy … of being last… for now..
