Nike+ Stats Widgets

May 29, 2007 · Leave a Comment

After spending some time surfing through the internet looking for some cool widgets for this blog, finally I found the ‘Justdoing.it’ service by Brandhackers. It let you create RSS feeds for your runs and a badge that displays the summary. This is another version of the earlier ‘Nike+ iPod Stats’ WordPress Plug-In by Mark Rickert.

I’ve added in 2 new columns on the right bar. The 1st column ‘Nike+ Stats’ shows the statistic in overall whereas the 2nd column shows individual runs summary on ‘My Nike+ Feeds’.

What else can I say, these widgets are just marvelous !

First 100km Marked !

May 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

After completing the 15km run last Saturday (26 May 07), I’ve covered a total of 110.3km (68 miles) in my journey. This marked 0.28% in distance of the overall 40,043km. The next milestone would be 500km, which I hope to complete by mid/end of Aug 07.

With my new Nike+ sports gear, the tracking job is now easier and faster. However, I’m still using the excel log sheet to perform some calculation and backup, just in case.

So, next stop at 500km, till then.

Sarawak Monthly 15 km Run

May 24, 2007 · 1 Comment

Nike+ has done a good job in combining conventional running with ICT. Now, all the runners from around the world can challenge each other in the name of sportsmanship, peace or even war!

After reading some of the forums hosted in Nike+ server, I came across all sorts of interesting challenges that somehow influenced me to create a challenge of my own. Yea yea, this somehow contradict with the intention to run a distance equivalent to rounding the world which got nothing to do with speed race. Anyway, it still contributes to extra mileage so why bother.

I named it ‘Sarawak Monthly 15km Run’ which is open to all runners from East Malaysia. This event will take place on every last Saturday of the month, and in every event, the fastest runner who clocked the fastest time will emerge as champion for the month.

Since Nike+ Sport Kit has just entered the East Malaysia market in April, there are not many runners available for now. So for 1st round, I can only manage to find 3 runners. Hopefully, as time progresses there will be more joining in for the ride. The event will take place this Saturday, 26 May 07.

So wish all the participants good luck and god speed !

My Gear: SportWrap by XtremeMac

A few weeks ago, I was patrolling some of the stores around Kuching looking for some iPod accessories, to be more specific, the armband for my iPod Nano. I’m actually looking for a better alternative to the original Apple armband that can effectively protect the Nano against perspiration. The original one can only hold it in your arm in a partially enclosed pouch.

Marware’s Sportsuit Convertible & Relay

My initial intention is to get the Sportsuit Convertible or Relay armband by Marware but unfortunately it’s unavailable in Kuching. Marware’s designs are the most attractive as it’s taking all the application and ergonomic factors into consideration. It also provides some extra space to house the Nike+ receiver unit that extended the Nano to an extra inch. Both armbands are selling at $ 29.95 (minus delivery from U.S), about RM 109.

For the relay model, you can also wear it on your wrist like a watch, now that’s cool.

ExtremeMac’s SportWrap

Anyway, I’ve to settle down with SportWrap by ExtremeMac which cost about the same price with Marware. The pouch fit the Nano nicely, however some cutting is required to enable the receiver unit to fit in. It uses neoprene so it’s waterproof and fit comfortably to your arm with Velcro to secure it.

The best thing about this product is actually ‘armbands’. Yes, you actually get 2 sets of armbands in this package. The 2nd neoprene strap is a shorter version that fit nicely in the wrist or palm. Same price with Marware, but you’ll get 2 straps with a pouch, what a bargain!

Although I like to use the armband version more, but sometime it feel nice when wearing the wristband, it somehow felt lighter in a sense.

The U.S price is $ 29.90, about RM 109. I got mine at RM 99.90, off the shelf.

Handstand’s iSnug

The 3rd armband is iSnug by Handstands. It resembles the SportWrap, however the price is the most competitive of all, at only USD 19.99 or RM 73 (minus delivery). What I like about this armband is the huge stitch-on brand name, which is about 50% bigger than ExtremeMac logo. This logo adds color to the dull black neoprene.

Price at time of purchase : RM 99.90
